Humility is the road to exaltation!

A step back may be a step up!

Each one of these statements may be familiar, but are they also counterintuitive? Do they oppose common sense? How can the way up really be down? How can a step back really be a step up? In a natural sense, they may seem counterproductive, but they are exactly how we must govern ourselves, if we are going to be instrumental in the kingdom of God. This year is my year of dedicated decrease! While most people want to increase their money, status, possessions, I have made it my quest to embrace great decrease in my life in four primary areas. Benefit #2 – Small group leaders get to participate in true discipleship. 

What is true discipleship? 

Let’s start with what it is not.

1. True discipleship is not apparent because a bell rings to signify that a discipleship class is in session.

2. True discipleship is not apparent in an organized group who meets weekly or monthly where Christ is not the center focus.

3. True discipleship is not apparent because we follow leaders in the church whose underlying motives have a insidious disregard for the gospel and the teachings of Christ.

What is true discipleship then? And how can leaders find fulfillment in participating in it?

Sacred Solitude

Blog - SolitudeSolitude can be an unrelenting place of loneliness for a great number of people. For some, it has no purpose; for others, purpose may not be discovered without it.

Its enormous value is often grossly underrated and sadly unappreciated. Its hidden worth is often overshadowed by society’s subtle assumption that solitude must surely be accompanied by loneliness and abandonment. On the contrary, solitude can be rewarding–even refreshing.
