2020 – The Year of Reflective Possibility!

Possibilities - 2020 New Year Blog PostWhat’s possible for you in 2020?

This question requires some serious thought. You can’t answer it on a whim.

There are some things that seem impossible to accomplish. But because this new year (and new decade) has come in with great expectation, we will not focus on what seems impossible; instead, we will focus on what is possible according to God’s promises.

For me, 2020 is the year of reflective possibility! It’s not just the year of possibility . . . but reflective possibility! Continue reading

2019: The Year of DECREASE

So . . . how did you do? What opportunities did you use to decrease for Jesus in 2019? This is a repost from one year ago. For myself, I see greater opportunity to continue decreasing in 2020.

We should always be willing to decrease that Christ will increase in our life. This will be ongoing for me! Numbers 2 & 3, I have made great progress and much more is needed. Number 4 . . . has been the biggest struggle for me in 2019 and will be a major focus for 2020.

So . . . how did you do? Leave a comment! It’s not too late! Get started!

Humility is the road to exaltation!

A step back may be a step up!

Each one of these statements may be familiar, but are they also counterintuitive? Do they oppose common sense? How can the way up really be down? How can a step back really be a step up? In a natural sense, they may seem counterproductive, but they are exactly how we must govern ourselves, if we are going to be instrumental in the kingdom of God. This year is my year of dedicated decrease! While most people want to increase their money, status, possessions, I have made it my quest to embrace great decrease in my life in four primary areas. And here’s how I plan to do it! Continue reading

Adding Value

Blog - Added ValueIf you’re not adding value to another person’s life, then what are you doing here?

It’s a profound question. And profound questions warrant very thoughtful and deliberate answers.

God could have created each one of us to live in isolation on a deserted island, but He didn’t. Instead, He made us to dwell in community with one another in the context of family, friendships, partnerships, and in varying degrees of relationship. Community undoubtedly involves sharing and depositing, but many times we are not sharing and depositing what matters most. On the contrary, in some cases, we have been making large withdrawals from others with no intention of making larger deposits.

Is that you? Are you draining others of their emotional, mental, spiritual, and material resources while contributing little in return? Continue reading

Benefits to Serving in Leadership: Imitate

Do you have a desire for leadership? And there is nothing wrong with such an honorable desire.

If your answer is yes, then my next question is why? What is the lure of leadership for you?

It is the prestige? The power? The privilege?

For some people, it is all of the above.

But an honorable ambition for leadership has an underlying motive of leading likBlog-Benefits2e Jesus and moving others to a sincere desire to do the same.

In this series of blog posts, I have identified 10 benefits of serving as a small group Bible study leader. Today we will discuss the first benefit! Probably the biggest benefit of being a small group Bible study leader, in my appraisal, is the privilege of imitating Jesus. Jesus was a small group leader! Though many times he was surrounded by large masses of people, in the most intimate settings, he could be found doing life with his twelve disciples.  Continue reading

When We Are Struggling…..

It’s a bad idea.

For believers to be alone.

To decide to live in isolation.

Blog - IronWe need others to come alongside us and sharpen in us what might otherwise be a dull blade.

A blunt knife is still a knife, but its effectiveness and its usefulness are greatly reduced. So it is with the believer who is left to herself – without the benefits that other sisters in Christ provide.  Continue reading

The Off Season

WBlog - The Off Seasone’re not always busy; there are times when we will have an off-season. An off-season is a period of time when the least of amount of activity or involvement is required; it’s a time period when there are low points in our schedule; a time when we are the least busy. It is at those times that many of us relax our focus and lessen our stride – even our stride in the Word of God. It’s a potentially dangerous period of time. Continue reading
