Fully Present in the Moment

Blog - Remain Fully PresentHow do you challenge yourself to remain present in every moment of your day? To listen carefully to God’s voice amid a hectic day?

It’s not always easy. Some days are super busy; therefore, listening for His voice and remaining present will take great resolve.

I like having steady and intentional use for my time, but I’m also grateful for the pause button on those really busy days. I’ve learned that those times aren’t readily handed to us. We must deliberately push the pause button and take in the spiritual food of God’s Word that is wonderfully nourishing to our souls.

I remember the day that God tugged at my heart and prompted me to put away what I was doing and listen. So, I did. And here’s what happened. Continue reading

I Did This for 30 Days, and Here’s What I’m Learning. . .

Blog - 30 DaysCrossing the finish line and finally accomplishing the end goal—that thing you’ve always wanted—could be as simple as asking yourself some thought-provoking questions, spending some time answering, and developing a viable, “stick-to-it” plan.

Keeping the big picture in focus is important. But establishing and maintaining good habits that move us incrementally closer to the goal are two important means to help you reach your end goal. In other words, it’s the day to day actionable and practical steps that move us closer to fulfillment. Focusing too intensely on the overarching goal may invite us to muse about the favorable outcome rather than realizing its end.

I’m learning this. Why would I say I’m learning this? Since I’m writing about it, shouldn’t this be a lesson learned? Continue reading

2019: The Year of DECREASE

So . . . how did you do? What opportunities did you use to decrease for Jesus in 2019? This is a repost from one year ago. For myself, I see greater opportunity to continue decreasing in 2020.

We should always be willing to decrease that Christ will increase in our life. This will be ongoing for me! Numbers 2 & 3, I have made great progress and much more is needed. Number 4 . . . has been the biggest struggle for me in 2019 and will be a major focus for 2020.

So . . . how did you do? Leave a comment! It’s not too late! Get started!

Humility is the road to exaltation!

A step back may be a step up!

Each one of these statements may be familiar, but are they also counterintuitive? Do they oppose common sense? How can the way up really be down? How can a step back really be a step up? In a natural sense, they may seem counterproductive, but they are exactly how we must govern ourselves, if we are going to be instrumental in the kingdom of God. This year is my year of dedicated decrease! While most people want to increase their money, status, possessions, I have made it my quest to embrace great decrease in my life in four primary areas. And here’s how I plan to do it! Continue reading

White Space

Blog - White Space We need it! But most of us don’t have it.

WHITE SPACE.

Most of my days are jammed-packed. It seems like the lists and obligations have no reprieve.

Yesterday, I started preparing for this week’s obligations. Though I do try, it’s hard to leave blank areas in my planner, because there is so much work to be done. But I’m learning that if I am going to continue in the work, leaving some white space is critical. Continue reading

Distraction Free Zone

Blog - Do Not DisturbTrouble concentrating?

Difficulty freeing yourself of distractions?

Having a hard time holding up the Do Not Disturb sign?

We’ve all been there. And if we’re honest, the saga continues. . .

Every day we begin again. This time with a sincere resolution to finish what we’ve started without the interference of social media and text messages (my vice), crises that really aren’t crises but failures to plan, and the subtle interruptions of our own disconnected thoughts. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to excel in a completely distraction free so we must limit the amount of distractions that hinder instead.

Adding Value

Blog - Added ValueIf you’re not adding value to another person’s life, then what are you doing here?

It’s a profound question. And profound questions warrant very thoughtful and deliberate answers.

God could have created each one of us to live in isolation on a deserted island, but He didn’t. Instead, He made us to dwell in community with one another in the context of family, friendships, partnerships, and in varying degrees of relationship. Community undoubtedly involves sharing and depositing, but many times we are not sharing and depositing what matters most. On the contrary, in some cases, we have been making large withdrawals from others with no intention of making larger deposits.

Is that you? Are you draining others of their emotional, mental, spiritual, and material resources while contributing little in return? Continue reading
