2020 – The Year of Reflective Possibility!

Possibilities - 2020 New Year Blog PostWhat’s possible for you in 2020?

This question requires some serious thought. You can’t answer it on a whim.

There are some things that seem impossible to accomplish. But because this new year (and new decade) has come in with great expectation, we will not focus on what seems impossible; instead, we will focus on what is possible according to God’s promises.

For me, 2020 is the year of reflective possibility! It’s not just the year of possibility . . . but reflective possibility! Continue reading

2019: The Year of DECREASE

So . . . how did you do? What opportunities did you use to decrease for Jesus in 2019? This is a repost from one year ago. For myself, I see greater opportunity to continue decreasing in 2020.

We should always be willing to decrease that Christ will increase in our life. This will be ongoing for me! Numbers 2 & 3, I have made great progress and much more is needed. Number 4 . . . has been the biggest struggle for me in 2019 and will be a major focus for 2020.

So . . . how did you do? Leave a comment! It’s not too late! Get started!

Humility is the road to exaltation!

A step back may be a step up!

Each one of these statements may be familiar, but are they also counterintuitive? Do they oppose common sense? How can the way up really be down? How can a step back really be a step up? In a natural sense, they may seem counterproductive, but they are exactly how we must govern ourselves, if we are going to be instrumental in the kingdom of God. This year is my year of dedicated decrease! While most people want to increase their money, status, possessions, I have made it my quest to embrace great decrease in my life in four primary areas. And here’s how I plan to do it! Continue reading

White Space

Blog - White Space We need it! But most of us don’t have it.

WHITE SPACE.

Most of my days are jammed-packed. It seems like the lists and obligations have no reprieve.

Yesterday, I started preparing for this week’s obligations. Though I do try, it’s hard to leave blank areas in my planner, because there is so much work to be done. But I’m learning that if I am going to continue in the work, leaving some white space is critical. Continue reading

Adding Value

Blog - Added ValueIf you’re not adding value to another person’s life, then what are you doing here?

It’s a profound question. And profound questions warrant very thoughtful and deliberate answers.

God could have created each one of us to live in isolation on a deserted island, but He didn’t. Instead, He made us to dwell in community with one another in the context of family, friendships, partnerships, and in varying degrees of relationship. Community undoubtedly involves sharing and depositing, but many times we are not sharing and depositing what matters most. On the contrary, in some cases, we have been making large withdrawals from others with no intention of making larger deposits.

Is that you? Are you draining others of their emotional, mental, spiritual, and material resources while contributing little in return? Continue reading

Bearing Burdens

blog-burdened1Troubling times will come. It’s inevitable. Jesus did say that in this world we will have tribulation (John 16:33).  There is not much that we can count “for sure” in this world, but tribulation is a certainty. What’s so comforting, though, is the Savior’s next statement to His disciples, and therefore to us as His present-day disciples. He encourages us to be of good cheer for He Himself has overcome the world.

Because Jesus conquered (nikaó) the world, His disciples have become conquerors in Him. For this reason, we can take purposeful aim at living in and walking according to the peace that He has afforded us. But sometimes we need a little help in order to grasp the eternal perspective regarding the difficulties that surface in our lives. We need others to come alongside to help us shoulder the burden.
